This cigar holder/divot tool is made from Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa), a beautiful and dense wood in the Rosewood family. It has a specific gravity of .9-1.1 which makes it a member of the ironwood class. Cocobolo is a naturally oily wood and like all rosewoods gives off a sweet smell when worked, hence the family name. It's a particularly beautiful wood with an alternating grain of red and black, often in very wavy patterns. Beautifully finished with Watco Oil and paste wax, this tool is approximately 3" long and 7/8" wide. The cigar cradle is 7/8" long, and 5/8 wide", suitable for a medium-sized cigar, like a Corona, up to about 50 ring gauge. Weight is 7.15 grams.
This tool has been designed to be used with a pushing motion as opposed to a lifting motion. Research
performed at Kansas State University has shown that repairing pitch marks using a pushing motion is much kinder to the sod's root system, enabling greens to heal faster and is recommended by the Golf Course Superintendents Association.
