This divot tool is made from Malaysian Blackwood (Diospyros ebonasea) a beautiful member of the Ebony family. It is endemic to the island of Malaysia and one of the most colorful of the Ebonies. Background colors can be reddish browns, grey, dark brown and green, almost always with random black striping and multiple hues. Malaysian Blackwood's recent popularity is due to its use in the making of high end guitars. It has an excellent reputation as a tone wood, many saying it is on par with Brazilian Rosewood. It's a dense wood but not as dense as Gaboon Ebony, the type used to make piano keys.
I wasn't able to photograph the Malaysian Blackwood tools to get their true colors so they look a little more red than they do in hand. The back ground color is more of a greenish brown overlayed with black stripes with tan colored hues. The tool is 3" in length and 7/8" wide. The cigar cradle is 7/8" long, 3/4" wide and almost 1/4" deep. Suitable for a large cigar up to ring gauge 60, like a Presidente. Weight is 7.6 grams.
