This divot tool is made from Malaysian Blackwood (Diospyros ebonasea) a beautiful member of the Ebony family. It is endemic to the island of Malaysia and one of the most colorful of the Ebonies. Background colors can be reddish browns, grey, dark brown and green, almost always with random black striping and multiple hues. Malaysian Blackwood's recent popularity is due to its use in the making of high end guitars. It has an excellent reputation as a tone wood, many saying it is on par with Brazilian Rosewood. It's a dense wood but not as dense as Gaboon Ebony, the type used to make piano keys.
This tool is longer than my normal divot tools at 3-1/8" long and it's just over 7/8" wide. Weight is 7.31 grams. Beautifully finished with Watco Teak Oil and polished with pure Carnuba Wax.
